Truth on Reggane nuclear tests, french experts
A group of French experts have called on the French government to officially make amends for the devastating nuclear tests conducted in the 60’s in the locality of Reggane in southern Algeria.
-
The call came out in a documentary film due to be broadcast Thursday by the Qatari news TV channel “Al Jazeera” which sheds light on the ins and outs of the blameworthy French nuclear testing in the Algerian SaharA during the French colonial occupation of the country.
-
This high – profile documentary film will be broadcast by the Doha –based TV channel on the occasion of the 47th sad anniversary of the French nuclear experience in Algeria.
-
The documentary film is rife with bitter testimonies from various protagonists who voiced their utter indignation at these destructive nuclear explosions which dealt, they said, a lethal blow to human health, to animal species and the earth itself in Reggane and well beyond owing to the sprawling scourge of radioactive waste.
-
The radioactive fall-out stemming from the French nuclear tests, are still felt today by the local population, witnesses said.
-
Many people, hailing from the Saharan Reggane locality and its vicinity, are still plagued by serious diseases notably skin cancer as a result of this deleterious radioactive fall – out.
-
The French experts stressed, in this regard, that the French authorities should not shirk their moral duty in the face of the international public opinion by taking the necessary steps “to remove the effects of the lingering cloak of shame of Reggane which is still gripping civilised France”, as they put it.
