Two ministries clash over Algerian community abroad

Following the decision taken by the president Abdelaziz Bouteflika to extend the solidarity minister’s prerogatives to the Algeria community abroad, a conflict broke out between Djamel Oueld Abbas and the Algerian foreign affairs minister, Mourad Medelci, who asked the Prime Minister to intervene with the view to define the tasks.

• According to sources at the ministry of foreign affairs, the department of the Algerian community abroad is witnessing a state of cacophony due to various interferences caused by this burlesque situation.
• The same source added that the solidarity ministry is seizing upon the foreign affairs ministry’s prerogatives as concerns its various contacts with embassies and consulates.
• The last measure decided by the Algerian solidarity minister to create a supreme council for the Algerian community abroad sparked huge controversy between the two ministries.
