U.S State Department accuses Algeria of restricting religious freedom on its territories

U.S State Department report accused, “ Algeria is restricting religious freedom of non-Muslims, who tried to spread their (incoming) religion, and practice it freely”.

  • The report reflected to other Arab and Muslim countires, such as Jordan, Egypt and Iran. On the other hand, the U.S department blocked the way of a project which the Islamic Conference adopted, centered on the criminalization of the religions’ defamation, after the abuse against the prophet Mohamad – God bless him- in many Western media.
  • The new report – described by some observers as unfair- criticised the mentioned countries, including Algeria, saying that “ Governments often seek to protect beliefs, ideologies and customs in these countires at the expense of ideologies and customs of minorities”, in reference to the legal measures and actions, which were initiated by these governments, to reduce the anarchy of religious rites practices, which spread widly in the Islamic and Arab countries, especially in Algeria during the past few years.
