UK court rejects bail application of Algerian businessman Khalifa

A court in London rejected bail application of millionaire Rafik Abdelmoumene Khalifa who is sought in Algeria for fraud and money-laundering, according to judicial sources. That means the session supposed to be held on July 24 was cancelled.

• The court will hold a session on August 4th to decide in the renewal of bail, said the same sources.
• The same court is expected to hold another session on September 2 to prepare sessions on human rights-related aspect.
• The judge in charge of deciding in Algeria’s extradition demand of Rafik Abdelmoumene Khalifa fixed the day of July 21 to continue sessions to decide in the demand.
• In 2007, Khalifa was sentenced to life prison in absentia.
• The cancelled session was supposed to handle the renewal of bail of Khalifa as well as the commencement of human rights-related aspect in the case.
