US pens company « Reynolds » in Algeria
Algeria consumes about 212.5 million fake pens annually.

Anis Reyahi, general-director of the industrial company of office materials revealed that the American “Sanford” company decided to help Algeria establishing a laboratory for toxic materials and imported products quality’s control.

  • They are destined for children and pupils who are exposed to dangerous health risks because of pens and casings use especially “ Naphtalene.”  It represents a high risk when it is used in manufacturing pens and poisoned ink unlike ink used by “Reynolds” company which uses natural ink to be absorbed by children without any present risk.  
  • “Naphthalene” is a very dangerous material especially on children because of its rapid absorption and it is a substance which causes severe poisoning, nausea, bloody urine, anaemia, pain when urinating, uncontrollable itching skin and eyes redness.
  • The company, which was established 36 years ago in partnership with Sanford US group currently employs 450 workers. Its director confirmed that Algeria consumes about 212.5 million fake pens annually. “These pens are made by poisoned ink and the laboratory which was established in Algeria will enable Algerian customs   controlling all quantities imported from China.” Their conformity to international standards and their quality are taken in consideration as well.
  • The company has transferred its factories since December 2006 from Valence in France to Tunisia because of North Africa’s competitive and attractive market.
  • Spokesman explained that the company produces one million “Reynolds” pens per day according to the highest health safety standards. It issued 84 percent of production for all world countries with a focus on Europe, Africa and Middle East because they are representing the main market of pens in coming decades.
  • The same source added that the company’s branch in Algeria will start local production for Reynolds’ pens as soon its sales reach 60 million pens annually.
  • Dr. Feliachi Fouad, the company’s director in Algeria confirmed that this level will easily be reached because of new arrangements taken by the government to combat counterfeiting and protect public health as well as national economy in cooperation with customs and the Gendarmerie.
