The United States and Turkey are setting up a working group to plan for possible scenarios in Syria, including the possibility of a chemical attack.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu announced the initiative Saturday during Clinton’s visit to Turkey.
They said the working group would coordinate military, intelligence and political responses as conditions in Syria continue to deteriorate. The U.S. announced Friday that it would level new sanctions against Syria and its supporters.
Clinton flew to Istanbul early Saturday after an 11-day, nine-nation tour of Africa. Turkey is hosting tens of thousands of Syrians who have fled violence in their home country.
