Algeria summoned its ambassador to Paris for consultations, in the wake of French public television channels broadcasting provocative documentaries to Algeria, a phenomenon that has been repeated from time to time in recent months.
The issue has become remarkable, because it has a lot of intention in insulting Algeria and the Algerians and then the bilateral relationships that have not enjoyed stability, for nearly a year and a half, and it is the inspection on which many observers stand, which has not been seen during the period of the previous president’s rule, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, accused of having turned Algeria into a back garden for the former colony.
The summoning of the Ambassador of Algeria in Paris, preceded by two documentaries, the first broadcast by France 5 public channel, through which it has insulted the symbols of the state, such as the “historical liberation front” which turned into a knot of the French state, as it was the reason for its expulsion after a century and 32 years of hateful settlement occupation. As for the second, it is the Parliamentary channel “LCE”, which broadcasted another documentary, focused ugly and provocatively on the Kabylian region, trying to highlight its specificity to further devote France’s differential harmful policy to the territorial integrity of Algeria.
What the Algerian Foreign Ministry did is the second of its kind in less than two months. At the beginning of April, the Foreign Ministry summoned the French ambassador to Algeria, Xavier Driancourt, to inform him of the official protest of Algeria over a dialogue broadcast by France 24 channel, which is affiliated with the French Foreign Ministry, that offends the Algerian state institutions, Represented in the Presidency of the Republic and the army, when hosting an alleged researcher known for his hatred against Algeria years ago, called Francis Ghilès, which seemed as if it was strictly planned, by this channel, which receives instructions from the French Foreign Ministry.
All the media abuse that Algeria was subjected to for nearly a year and a half was from the French public media, which leads to the conviction that the players in the game are the official politicians and that it is not a matter of mere diligence of media men driven by the freedom of expression which the French talk about.
The issue this time seems to be greater. Algeria has moved from summoning the French ambassador to Algeria to withdrawing its ambassador from Paris, which is the second step in the diplomatic protest between two countries which relationships are in deterioration, and the matter may develop in the next stage if Paris does not stop its tongues, to the declaration of the French ambassador in Algeria, a persona non grata, according to diplomatic norms.
Observers believe that the relationships between Algeria and Paris will not slip to the level of expelling the French ambassador in Algeria, because France will rush to demand calm, as it did at the beginning of last April, when it followed its offensive dialogue against Algeria, with a report in which there is a lot of “brushing” for the party that it criticized before a few days.
However, the repetition of such abuses would create a state of entrenched hostility between the two parties, which makes it difficult to reform what has been corrupted, because the issue may get out of control, especially after the partisan and collective parties entered the line in support of the official complaining position of the French continuous provocations.
What comes from time to time from the French media outlet regarding the antagonism of Algeria, suggests beyond a reasonable doubt, that the former colony had lost privilege or something valuable for more than a year and a half, and therefore it tries from time to time to sensitize the other party represented in Algeria, perhaps it will review its accounts, which is not expected to happen in the major changes that have taken place at the head of the authorities in Algeria and the new leadership and its declared directions, which are likely to emerge in the form of new blocs soon.
