France would like to be employ Algeria in the service of its strategy in Africa and the Sahel region, and make it its cop in the southern Mediterranean, Former Minister and diplomat, Abdelaziz Rehabi told Echorouk in response to a question about what does France want from Algeria?

“Paris has a historical, militarily, political and economic extension of more than a century in Africa, which is the only strategic extension for France, which makes it a global power that is not ready to give up this power and this is normal for the major states”.
Former Algerian ambassador to Spain said that Paris influence in the region is not automatically normal, but it is included in the framework of foreign policy in which politics, economy and military presence are used.
“Majority of African President are largely pro-France with varying degrees”.
“There are possibilities by Algeria and its expertise in the fight against terrorism, that made Paris use it as a cop to control the region, so as to provide for itself some funds to pay Morocco for the embodiment of the French policy in the region.”
“Paris supports the African policy for Morocco, and employ it in achieving its strategy in the region, through supporting the physical and financial means for its presence in Africa, as well as the bias of the French position from Rabat in supporting the proposal for autonomy in Western Sahara.”, in reference to Paris employment of the Qatari presence in Africa through aid associations that are owned by rulers and some businessmen in Doha to serve its strategy.”
“French Defense Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, visited Algeria not only because Paris views Algeria as the cop who helps it in counter terrorism, but also because it is such a large market that is the only recourse to get out of the economic crisis, through selling weapons of various kinds.”
“Algeria has the opportunity to avoid this role, or at least to exploit it in its favor, not only through a military and security presence at the level of its borders with neighboring countries, especially Sahel countries, but the best way to do it, is the presence in these countries politically and economically through the formation of armies of Sahel region countries, and the training of its security forces, and pay teachers, doctors, banks and Algerian imams to be present in these countries, through building mosques and the promotion of foreign trade there”.
