With Celebrations barred to local Christian converts in Biskra, others headed to Batna and Setif
Dozens of local citizens who are devout Christians settled in the south-eastern province of Biskra were unable to celebrate Christian religious events through their usual secret get-togethers with their peers for fear of being rejected by the wide majority of the other citizens of the province where the precepts of the religion of Islam are deeply anchored.
“Echorouk” was able to track down these local Christian citizens despite the fact that their movements are usually kept secret, because they do not trust all the other people around them notably in Biskra province, preferring to perform their religious rituals by remaining confined at home together with some of their peers.
Some others seeing that the celebrations weren’t possible for them in Biskra province moved for the purpose to small churches in the provinces of Batna and Sétif where the clampdown on such celebrations is somewhat complacent and rather lenient.
This cautious approach adopted by these Christian converts is designed to preclude a loss of acceptance by the large majority of Muslim citizens and to ward off adverse social frictions within society.
