World food crisis: Algeria nothing to fear
The food crisis that affected some 37 countries worldwide has been avoided owing to the sound and sustainable strategy implemented by the Algerian authorities through the national plan for agricultural development.

The head of the national agriculture chamber, Oueld Al Hossein declared” Algeria is not at all affected by the international food crisis and will be secured for a long time period“.

According to him, the crisis that affected some 37 countries worldwide has been avoided owing to the sound and sustainable strategy implemented by the Algerian authorities through the national plan for agricultural development.

In a declaration to “Echorouk”, M. Al Hossein said that most of the affected countries, following the price’s hike of basic food commodities on the international market, are those that based their agricultural strategy on the IMF and World Bank suggestions.

These countries, he added, were encouraged to export extensively different products such as, bananas, tomatoes, cotton and citrus fruits at the expense of basic agriculture.

M Oueld Al Hossein considered the strategy followed by the Algerian authorities to keep the Algerian corn office helped the country to avoid a food crisis similar to that prevailing in various countries asserting that, by contrast, the authorities applied a long term strategy rather than exporting agricultural products.
