Zerhouni: “Colonel Ali Tounsi was my comrade and used wisdom in leading the General Department of Security”

Algeria’s State and Interior Minister, Noureddine Yazid Zerhouni, praised the qualities of the national police chief and General Director of Security Ali Tounsi who was shot dead in his office in Algiers by the head of the police aviation hardware unit Oueldtache Choaib, describing him as a companion and asserting that he left suddenly and unexpectedly.  

• “I and Si Elghaouti (Ali Tounsi) joined the National Liberation Army on the same day. We know each other for 35 years, as we had one concern the nation’s interest and defence”, Zerhouni said during the conclusion ceremony of the heads of security departments’ training days in Chateau Neuve Thursday in Algiers.

• Zerhouni added that their aim during the revolution was the independence of Algeria before starting the process of construction.

• “The late assassinated Colonel Ali Tounsi accepted during the nineties a heavy task which is leading the General Directorate for the National Security, under very difficult circumstances, at a time some people refused to accept such a job. Ali Tounsi used experience and wisdom while conducting the General Directorate for the National Security, as defending the state’s laws was his first concern”.
