10000 Algerians Granted US, French Citizenships Each Year, Official Data
The number of Algerian nationals seeking foreign citizenship, including US, French and Canadian, is in constant increase, official French and Canadian figures revealed.
As many as 8000 Algerian nationals have been granted the US citizenship annually, during the last ten years, comparing to 2000 Algerians are attributed the French nationality each year, including babies of Algerian parents born in France, the survey mentioned.
The data shows a considerable hike of Algerians who have been granted the French nationality in the last ten years, the majority of which are businessmen and Algerian women who married French nationals.
To recall, several high ranking Algerian officials, including ministers, have dual nationality, either US, Canadian or French, and it seems that having a Western nationality is a source of proud and showing off, for them!
Algerian authorities have amended the nationality code in 2005, making it easier for any Algerian to have dual nationality, and occupy high ranking positions, though, the data concluded.
However, the irony is that at the time that businessmen and ministers tend to take their pregnant wives to European and US clinics to give birth to their babies, Algerian scientists abroad are having nostalgia to their mother country, seeking best ways to help her.
