10,000 candidates excluded from Baccalureate exams due to cheating

The number of excluded candidates from the Baccalaureate exam is estimated at 10,000 in 18 provinces as reports show that they were involved in “collective cheating” in the philosophy examination, Echorouk has learnt.

The candidates got 0 out of 20 in the examination as correcting teachers confirmed that they cheated. Some of them had good averages during the school year. Yet, the 0 score deprived them of passing the Baccalureate exam. They protested with their parents at regional education authority buildings in different provinces as they described the exclusion as “unfair.”

The candidates will be prevented from taking the Baccalaureate exam for 5 years as part of punishment.

Earlier, the National Office of Exams inquired about a number of teachers who supervised the exams. They will be called in in July upon reports about their involvement in collective cheating.

The Algerian education minister warned of imposing sanctions on teachers involved in teaching by dismissing them.
