After a year since the approval of a law for the protection of children, the promulgation of 13 executive decrees still freezes the application of this law.

Algeria has celebrated the Children’s Day for the first time this year on July 15th. Solidarity minister Mounia Meslem talked about children’s situation in Algeria after the independence, saying a lot of work is still to be done.

She added that there is a lack of entertainment for children without evoking the other missing aspects. “We noticed that Algerian children do not play a lot. They need more entertainment facilities and programs.”

President of Nada Network for the Protection of Children Abderrahmane Arar said there is an urgent need to promulgate 13 executive decrees to complement the law.

“Official promises confirmed that the decrees will come into force ahead of the next school year,” he added.

Arar described children’s situation in Algeria as “serious.” Shocking cases and figures need efforts.

“A total of 13,000 children appear in court every year and 32,000 others are in danger,” he said.
