140,000 inspected in Algeria

The National Gendarmerie forces inspected more than 140,000 people were inspected in Algiers in January-July. Of them, 496 were arrested.

  • This comes as part of security measures meant to foil any terrorist attempt against the second Pan-African Festival held in Algiers.
  • Colonel Mustapha Taibi said the Gendarmerie forces worked on ensuring the safety of the African event.
  • A total of 4,798 people took part in the festival. Of them, 2,570 were foreigners. All the African participants were under the responsibility of the Gendarmerie.
  • Most of the African participating delegations left Algeria on July 20th.
  • Two African participants converted into Islam one hour before they left. The first one comes from the Kingdom of Lesotho. He was given a copy of the Holy Quran in English while the second African comes from Benin. He changed his name to Moussa and came back home.
