164 Algerians drowned in swamps, dams and seas since June

At least 164 people sunk in Algeria, including 79 drowned in swamps, ponds and dams since last June, official at the General Directorate of Civil Protection Bernaoui Nassim told Echorouk.

“85 cases of drowning were registered at 352 beaches three of which are guarded and 49 in beaches banned for swimming. Most of the victims are youth and children”, he added.

 

Mostaghanem (west of Algeria) noticed the largest number of victims with 22 drowned, followed by Bejaia (east of Algiers) with 11 victims. Interventions of the civil protection exceeded 3900 since the beginning of summer season.

 

On the other hand, 79 people sunk into dams, valleys, lakes and reservoirs, mostly in internal localties due to the absence of public facilities.
