187 Algerian illegal immigrants died off Italian coasts since 2004

Italy-A diplomatic mission of the Algerian Embassy to Rome moved to Cagliari, in the island of Sardinia, to determine the identity of an Algerian illegal immigrant, who died by drowning off the coast of the island, and to inspect the situation of 28 others, who were miraculously rescued.

 

Sources from the Algerian Embassy in Rome told Echorouk that the official in charge of the consulate affairs Mr. Amrine, moved on Friday, accompanied by an Algerian diplomatic delegation to Cagliari in order to inspect the situation of 28 Algerian illegal immigrants, who were rescued and among them a number of injured. The same officials took the necessary action and measures to complete the process of determining their identities.

 

Initial information shows that the Algerian illegal immigrant, who died in Sardinia, is a minor of 16 or 17.

 

The number of Algerians who died in journeys for illegal immigration towards the Italian coasts reaches 186 since 2004, according to sources from associations of Algerian illegal immigrants in Italy.

 

This number is for Algerians who set off only from Annab and Taref shores, east of Algeria, other Algerian victims were drowning in Libyan, Tunisian coast or in Lampedusa Island, according to statistics by the Italian coast guards.
