200,000 armed militia on Libyan-Algerian borders
Algeria delivered images and maps about Libyan armed militia deployment on borders to the Libyan government, Xinhua news agency reported citing Algerian sources.
The aid comes few hours after the Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal’s visit to Tripoli. The two countries signed an understanding memorandum on cooperation in defense, borders safety, countering weapons and illegal immigrants smuggling, easing visa procedures, financial, commercial and transportation field, according to the same source.
The militia claims that it liberated Libya from Gaddafi. Figures show that its number suddenly went up to more than 200,000 from 50,000.
Algeria expresses fears of the armed militia as recent security reports say Libyan weapons are the main source for arms trade mafia which deals with terrorist groups and smugglers.
A few months ago, Algeria stopped security coordination with Libya on borders surveillance as the central government in Tripoli did not have control over borders.
According to sources, security reports say Libyan extremist Salafist battalions dominate land borders between Algeria and Libya.
