2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations : “The Greens held to a goalless draw by an unpretentious Rwanda squad”.
The Algeria line-up was forced to a goalless draw Saturday in Kigali in a first – leg qualifier by a modest team of Rwanda as part of the second phase of the combined qualifications to the 2010 World cup and Africa cup of nations football competition.
-
Karim Matmour to “Echorouk” :
-
-
“We clearly missed the chance to win the Kigali match but we will pull out all the stops to garner more points in the next qualifiers”.
-
-
Echorouk : “What is your assessment of the Greens’ performance versus the Rwanda squad ?”
-
-
“I should say that we played well throughout all the game but we unfortunately missed manifold opportunities to score easy goals especially during the first – half “.
-
-
“Echorouk” : “Does it mean that you are satisfied with the draw versus Rwanda ? “
-
-
“In fact, a draw in an away match is a positive outcome and I am confident that we will carry the day with flying colours in the second-leg match to be played in Algeria”.
-
-
Rwanda’s Tikidi to “Echorouk” :
-
-
The Rwanda midfielder Tikidi said that his team faced enormous difficulties against the Algerian Fennecs throughout the Kigali encounter.
-
-
According to him, the draw was equitable versus an Algeria squad which is made up of talented players who could have turned the match in the Greens’ favour at any moment, Tikidi said.
-
-
Rabah Saâdane : “We missed victory by a whisker in the first-half of the match”.
-
-
National coach Rabah Saâdane praised his players for their appreciable performance on the pitch in Kigali, but said that victory was woefully missed in the first-half which was, he said, under the sway of the Algeria squad.
-
-
Saâdane, however, asserted that the Greens would certainly fare better in the next qualifiers on their agenda, by making it a bounden duty to snatch the maximum points at home.
