2011 IPC Athletics World Championships: Nouioua Hamdi win men's 800m and 200m finals
CHRISTCHURCH (New Zealand)- Algerian athletes Samir Nouioua (T46) and Sofiane Hamdi (T37) won Wednesday the Men's 800m and 200m finals during day five of the IPC Athletics Championships taking place in the city of Christchurch in New Zealand. After the gold in the 1500m, snatched Monday, Samir Nouioua won by winning the supreme title of the other middle distance race (800m), setting a new championship record in 1:53.14.
The Algerian beat the Poles Marcin Awizen (1:53.97) and Austria’s Guenther Matzinger (1:54.52). In the same race, another Algerian Hamza Rehouni took 7th place with a time of 1:58.48.
The other satisfaction Algeria participation during the day, was the gold medal at the finish by Sofiane Hamdi in the 200m final (T37) who achieved a new world record of the event with a time of 23.64 (former record was held by the South African, Van Der Merwe Fanie 23.72 since last May).
