Authorities in Algiers refused to give a license for Belaiat group to hold an emergency session of the Central Committee on 13 and 14 February in Mazafran hotel, due to the lack of capacity, as the meeting was devoted to the election of a new secretary general instead of Saadani, who is accused by his opponents of destabilizing the country, and asked the President to overthrow him as he was put on FLN’s leadership.
Coordinator of reformers, Abderrahman Belaiat, remained awaiting for the positive response from Algiers authorities, claiming that his file meets the legal requirements, both for the rules of procedure of the party that allows him as the coordinator of the party, and the elderly of the Central Committee, to call upon the Central Committee, as well as being able to collect 257 signatures of members of this body.
Belaiat said, on Tuesday, before he was shown on the decision of the Wilaya that he is optimistic about the response to the license application, and the leading member of the party Abdelhamid Si Afif added that the governor does not have the right of refusal, and is asked to respect the law, claiming that they have taken all precautions; “Even Belkhadem signed with us, and sent people who also signed. Departure of Saadani became a requirement for the majority of the Central Committee members, and within the rules of struggle”.
Spokesman of the party, Said Boudjadja, told Echorouk that Saadani was elected by the majority during the Central Committee’s meeting on 29 August of last year, adding that no one can speak on behalf of FLN but the Secretary- General.
Politburo member, Moustafa Mazouzi, accused the group of Belaiat of spoofing character, and told Echorouk that Saadani is the one who has the legitimacy and is recognized by most members of the Central Committee.
“Meeting of the Central Committee invoked controls and laws as stipulated in the Basic Law of the party, which is a request for holding a session to be delivered directly to the Secretary- General, while the reformers did not take the initiative in this step, claiming that they do not recognize Amar Saadani”.
“Leadership does not want to override the limits of struggle among the sons of the party. Abderrahmane Belaiat is spoofing character. He took a position which does not in the laws of the party, a position of General Coordinator. This task is not given, except in the case of the absence of the Secretary-General due to resignation or death, and the failure to hold the Central Committee, is that the country’s stability is achieved by the stability of the national parties led by FLN.”
