• Most of these ghastly affairs ended up with the murderers being sentenced by the various criminal courts to life in prison or to capital punishment.

• According to statistics issued by the Justice Ministry, 800 people  were killed by firearms, 1.500 others with the use of knives or swords and one thousand other victims were strangled to death in several parts of the country notably in big cities like Algiers, Oran, Annaba and Constantine.

• It should be noted that 143 teenagers less than 17 years’ old were also among those murdered, according to a Justice Ministry report.

• Algeria is ranked in the 48^th position internationally and 4^th at the African level and 9^th at the Arab level as far as the crime rate is concerned in keeping with recent official statistics.
