300 Ton Drug Smuggled To Algeria Every Year, Survey
About 300 ton of drug, of different types, is smuggled annually to Algeria via the eastern and western borders, while the amount of drug deals is estimated at 4 billion USD a year, a field survey concluded.
The survey, which has been conducted by National Union for Craftsmen and Merchants, showed also that there are as many as 20 thousand drug traffickers and dealers in the country.
The narcotic traffickers target street hawkers to make of them drug dealers. The traffickers propose on the dealers to take half of the deal revenue, which increased the number of dealers and traffickers up to 20 thousand, according to the survey.
The survey further mentioned that 25% of the smuggled drug is destined for local consumption, while the rest is trafficked to Europe.
Youngsters under 30 represent 80% of drug addicts in Algeria, the survey showed.
