5 flight attendants arrested over drug trafficking
The examining magistrate of the court of Algiers has yesterday remanded in custody 5 stewards working in the Algerian airlines company “ Air Algérie†for the their involvement in an international network specialized in drug trafficking.

The gang has smuggled huge quantities of cocaine from European and African countries valued at billions of Algerian Dinars over the last three years, it said.

Sources close to the case have indicated that the five stewards were among a group of 14 individuals heard by the judge in the wake of the arrest of a steward working on the line Algiers- Bamako with 250gr of cocaine dissimulated in his pant.

Following thorough investigations based on the revelations by the arrested culprits, the judge has ordered the arrest of other individuals involved in this traffic including a businessman specialized in the import of medical equipment, the company’s union chief and a famous popular singer.

The judge has also charged three police officers with complicity in this case.

The same source has revealed startling details about this nefarious affair including the deal the relatives of outstanding personalities that counted among the clients of these traffickers.

The members of the gang started the smuggling of cocaine from Spain and other European countries till 2009, but shifted there destination toward Mali because “ cocaine was of best quality and less expensive”.

To recall, several networks have turned their trafficking from the Latin America toward the West African countries like Mali, Senegal and Guinea.
