52 Parties failed to attract half of the electors in Algeria
First analysis of the local elections of November 29, 2012 show that the participation’ rate remains the challenge both the authorities and the opposition parties fail to handle each time. It is clear that the number of the political parties doesn’t mean anything for the electors.

Many experts consider the necessity of investigating on the reasons that push 55% of the electors to boycott the legislatives and the locals, although it is common to register the same rates in some countries.

The results of the elections are similar after each rendez-vous and the parties, ether the old or the new ones, have failed short to impact on the electors and attract the voters. The question is: why is the rate of abstentions is the same each time?

Many experts consider that the National Liberation Front ( FLN) has succeeded to keep his electoral base stable although it failed to attract new comers. By contrast, the National Democratic Rally ( RND) has lost many militants due to internal troubles linked to the sanction of a number of former elected members and external ones linked to the so called movement of reformists.

But the biggest setback in these elections was recorded by the Islamic parties that failed to take advantage of the fresh momentum gained by the Islamists in the Arab countries. The “Algerian Islamists” have failed to take the lead, or at least to keep the same ranking as in the previous elections.
