550 Thousand Public Houses to Be Constructed Before 2014, Council of Ministers

The Council of Ministers, chaired by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, has approved the affectation of 9974 hectares divided on 22 provinces, and destined to the construction of 550 thousand new public houses, in the frame of the 5 year development programme (2010-2014).

This new housing programme is destined to satisfy the high demand recorded nationwide. It is worth to mention that several protests have errupted here and there to express indignation over local authorities who excluded needy people and families from benefiting of a house, in the frame of the social aid programme of the government.    

President Bouteflika has required the government “to make sure that the estate spots to be attributed with respect to the enforcing law, and the delivery of the project to be done on the agreed deadlines.”

To recall, one of the main goals of the 5 year development programme, to which the government allocated 220 thousand billion DZD, is the construction of 2.5 million houses. 

On another side, ahead of the holy month of Ramadhan, the council of minister has decided allocating the Minister of National Solidarity a 3.5 billion DZD budget, in order to distribute 1.5 million food parcels to needy households, while 700 charitable restaurants will be opened to feed 5 million people. 13 000 volunteers will participate in this charitable operation.
