6 kg of TNT destined to terrorists uncovered by Gendarmerie Forces
National Gendarmerie Regional Forces in the province of Tissemsilt, in western Algeria, seized late last week a sizable quantity of explosives which were destined to GSPC terrorist groups operating in the western part of the country.
- Security sources told “Echorouk Al Yaoumi” that 60 French-Made anti-personnel mines, the equivalent of 6 kg of TNT, had been uncovered by Gendarmerie Forces after receiving reliable clues and information about the existence of an arms – smuggling ring operating on the Algerian – Moroccan border.
- After a thorough investigation, Gendarmerie squads uncovered this sizable quantity of explosives and rounded up several people suspected of direct involvement in these dangerous smuggling activities on Algeria’s western border.
- According to security sources, these explosives were smuggled into western Algeria through Morocco where several underground workshops for bomb – making are said to be covertly active in some border localities.
- The same sources indicated that the explosives seized were clearly destined to GSPC terrorist gangs for use in new car – bomb or suicide bombings in western Algeria.
- The price of explosives has reportedly risen from 600 Dinars in 2006 to 2000 Dinars (200 Euros) this year on account of the increasing demand by terrorist gangs.
- The nefarious arms’ smugglers have taken the opportunity of the stringent clampdown imposed by Algerian authorities on illicit arms and explosives across the National territory to substantially hike the prices of explosives.
