8 Student Unions to Launch General Strike in Universities

8 Student Unions to Launch General Strike in Universities

Eight student unions have rallied in an alliance and decided to launch a strike, to face the blockage that hit some universities nationwide, on the eve of the inauguration of the new university season by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika from Laghoaut University.

This blockage situation has delayed the start of studies in several universities, including in Algiers, Oran, Setif and Chlef.

In fact, the alliance of the student unions is intending to force head offices of the blocked universities to open dialogue cannels with students in order to fix pending issues, including the mass failure of students, amid indifference of Ministry of Higher Education.

A statement bearing the signatures of the eight unions reads that several items prompted them to get together and decide to launch a strike movement, amid the absence of dialogue cannels, the capricious decisions taken by university head offices, and threatening to take disciplinary measures and suing in justice students demanding their rights.
