Saipem and Eni bicker in media

Immediately after the issuance of the decision of the preliminary hearing’s judge of Milan Court, Alessandra Clemente, regarding the declaration of Paolo Scaroni not guilty along with Eni from the bribes scandal and international corruption in the case of Sonatrach, and the referral of three officials in Saipem to trial, the two parties start bickering in media.
In this context, Eni group said, in a statement, that it expressed satisfaction with the judge’s decision regarding his declaration as not guilty along with some of its officials after the judicial investigation about international corruption and Saipem activities in Algeria.
“The group adequately cooperate with the investigating judges and always declared that it is not guilty in this case, either for the institution or managers, in particular through internal audits that were carried out by neutral experts, and this is confirmed today by the court’s decision.”
Saibem company made it clear in a statement, that it will present in December’s trail, the evidence of the lack of administrative responsibility regarding the alleged bribes of some of its managers in Algeria transactions, in reference that everything was under the control of the mother company, which is Eni, which owns 43% of Saipem.
This bickering is back to previous statements by Saipem’s CEO, Pietro Bruno, when he asserted that everything with the Algerians and the deals were signed with the knowledge and approval of the senior managers in Eni, who were on the lookout for both large and small details, ATP.
