Over 8.1 million Algerians flocked to clinics and hospitals for seasonal flu vaccine, which noticed this year a large spread due to to late winter, Health and Hospital Reform Ministry said.

In this context, the person in charge of media at the Ministry level, Mr. Belkcem, asserted that 90% of vaccines out of two million vaccines ended in hospitals because of the large number of citizens who asked for flu vaccination, after the uproar that was practiced by media regarding the amplification of deaths and injuries.
“Ministry recorded since last January 16 deaths due to seasonal flu, which is a modest number, according to the spokesman, that falls within the expected rate that is ranging between 1,500 and 2,000 deaths annually in Algeria because of the flu, especially people who suffer chronic diseases and elderly, pregnant women and kids, who come at the forefront of deaths, as a result of the weak immunity systems.”
“Algeria recorded annually two million seasonal flu infection. It is a usual number that enters in the expectations of the Health Ministry that announced a 500 million deaths annually due to seasonal influenza.”
