Algerian community in France to get together to create regulating legal activity framework

Algerian activists and former Algerian lawmakers settled in France have decided to create a legal framework for ensuring the official activity and the defense of the Algerian community members living in France, as part of a formal setting, in view of the increasing discriminatory acts of aggression committed against Algerians, following the recent ill-fated “Charlie Hebdo” newspaper attacks by two French nationals of Algerian descent.

Since then, the wanton acts of aggression perpetrated against peaceful Algerians settled in France have risen to about 150 mostly targeting mosques, Muslim-owned shops and even schools frequented by Muslim students in several parts of France including Paris.

In a statement to “Echorouk” on Thursday, Mr Bachir Ouazen, a former Algerian MP representing the Algerian community abroad, and who is also an association activist said that a broad-based meeting bringing together Algerians settled in France was planned for February 15^th at 10.am at the “Brasso” hall in the Giffor department aimed at examining how best to cope with this adverse situation.

He explained that the upcoming get-together would be devoted to mapping out a regulatory framework with the view to ensuring the community’s official activities and the defense of the rights of the Algerian community members living in various parts of France in order to spare them any offenses or discriminatory acts from malevolent people especially with the significant hike in the Islamophobic sentiment in France after the “Charlie Hebdo” fatal episode  .

He added that once this legal framework is clearly defined and approved, the community’s representatives would submit the relevant file to the French authorities concerned for endorsement so as to secure the green-light for a launch of official activities within a legal scope.
