A New Charter to Protect Children From Internet Crimes

A New Charter to Protect Children From Internet Crimes

A new charter for protecting children from cybercrimes will be enforced as by 2012, Minister of Post and Information and Telecommunication Technologies, Moussa Benhemadi said Saturday.

Mr Benhamadi told Echorouk reporter that the aforementioned charter was drawn up by a group of ministries and concerned institutions, and then has been reinforced by a set of legislative texts in bid to guarantee a better protection for children internet users.

The minister said the new charter will impose on internet cafes owners and parents at home to install a shield program which bans children from accessing websites with pornographic and violence content. He further stressed that his services will follow up the implementation of the charter, adding that those who would not commit to these measures will be subjected to firm sentences, reaching prison.

Mr Benhamadi specified that a recent survey conducted by a group of experts concluded that 77 percent of internet users are children aged between 8 and 13, and that a child out of three gets a shock from watching a violent or pornographic scene on internet.
