A Suicide Car Bombing in Bordj Badji Mokhtar Foiled By ANP Army

On Sunday, the Ministry of National Defense announced that a suicide car bomb attack targeting an Army detachment in Bordj Badji Mokhtar in Algeria’s Deep South had been thwarted.

A detachment of the National People’s Army (ANP) was the target of a suicide bomber attack on Sunday morning aboard an all-terrain vehicle booby-trapped in the Timiaouine border area in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, a Ministry of National Defense (MDN) statement said, deploring the death of a military officer in charge of control after precluding the vehicle’s attempted access in force.

“A detachment of the National People’s Army was the target, today February 9, 2020 at 10:50 am, in the border area of Timiaouine, in Bordj Badji Mokhtar in the 6th Military Region, of a suicide bomber aboard a booby-trapped four-wheel drive vehicle.

Immediately identified, the soldier in charge of access control managed to thwart the attempt to forcefully enter the suspect vehicle, however the bomber blew up his vehicle, causing the death of the soldier on duty,” said the Ministry of National Defense (MDN).

“Following this cowardly attack, Major General Said Chanegriha, Acting Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army sent his sincere condolences to the family and friends of the Chahid, saluting the great vigilance shown by the elements of the detachment who were able to thwart this desperate attempt in search of media impact, while stressing the determination of the ANP Forces to eradicate the heinous scourge of terrorism and track down criminals throughout the national territory, in order to preserve the security and stability of the country,” the MDN statement added.
