Abdelmadjid Tebboune: “A Hight Degree Of Vigilance, Precaution Should Be Maintained To Stem Coronavirus Spread”

President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, chaired the periodic meeting of the Supreme Security Council, on Sunday, where he directed strict instructions to maintain a high degree of precaution and vigilance, to confront the Coronavirus spread, and he also called for a careful mobilization of all the concerned sectors to confront any possibility or emergency, statement of Presidency said.

“In the context of the measures that were taken by the public authorities to counter any spread of Coronavirus, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the Republic, Minister of National Defense and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, presided on Sunday, at the Presidency of the Republic, a coordination meeting with members of the Supreme Security Council, during which the Prime Minister presented an evaluation of the situation”, the same source added.

“After the Prime Minister’s presentation, through which he assured that the authorities are totally in control of the situation, the President of the Republic gave strict instructions to maintain a high degree of precaution and vigilance, and he ordered a vigorous mobilization of all sectors to confront any risk”.

“During this meeting, other issues that are related to security issues were also discussed, and the President of the Republic gave precise instructions to strengthen surveillance and security measures at the level of the nation’s borders”.

The second meeting of the Supreme Security Council was attended by the Prime Minister, Abdelaziz Djerad, Acting Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General Saïd Chengriha, the Minister of Justice, Belkacem Zaghgmati, Adviser to the President in charge of Security Affairs, the Retired Major General Abdelaziz Medjahed, along with both the National Gendarmerie Commander Abderrahmane Arar, Director of Internal Security, Director of External Security, and the General Director of National Security Ounissi Khalifa.

President Tebboune had presided over a meeting of the Supreme Security Council on December 26th, and at that time the presidency statement said that the president “called for a minute of silence in honour of the spirit of the late Mujahid (war veteran) the Major General, Ahmed Gaid Salah, and recalling his great sacrifices, efforts and work for Algeria”.

“The first meeting examined the situation in the region and in particular on the Algerian borders with Libya and Mali. The Council decided in this context a set of measures to be taken to protect our national borders and territory, and the reactivation and revitalization of Algeria’s role at the international level, especially concerning these two files, generally speaking in the Sahel and Sahara region and Africa”.

Previously, the President of the Republic has decided to hold meetings of the Supreme Security Council periodically, and whenever the situation requires it”.
