Abdelmadjid Tebboune: “The Hirak Ended The 5th Term’s Comedy”
Algerian people protested during the Hirak of February 22, 2019, to express their anger with everything that happened in the country in the two or three years that preceded and ended with the comedy of preparing the fifth term, President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said in an interview with the French newspaper “L’opinion”.
President Tebboune added that the former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika was impotent and the “blessed” Hiral put an end to this comedy.
“The Hirak at that time expressed popular, civilized and peaceful protests that were protected by the armed forces and security services”, Tebboune confirmed.
The President of the Republic enumerated the demands of the Hirak at that time, which were summarized in “ending the electoral process for April 2019 and putting an end to the efforts to extend the fourth bid with a radical change in government. This resulted in the first clean and transparent elections. The most difficult thing was to restore the confidence of the Algerian people who have been disappointed due to years of folkloric management as if it were a banana republic”.
“It was necessary to show that the change was fundamental at the level of local, regional and national administration. We have made changes in all state bodies and have started making efforts so that the initial draft of the constitution is a true reflection of the popular demands for change”.
“Just as I undertook during the campaign, calm and peace returned. We are on the right track to restore the Algerians’ confidence in their country and their officials, including the President of the Republic”.
Regarding the Libyan file, Tebboune said that the only way to rebuild Libya is through organizing elections, regardless of the difficulties it faces.
President Tebboune made clear that the priority in Libya is to rebuild state institutions and embody the legitimacy elected by the Libyan people, and then initiate the procedures for drafting a constitution for the country.
