“Mubarek tries to play on Egyptians’ feeling but they have strong memory,” says Muslim Brotherhood’s Deputy Chairman

Mohamed Habib, the Deputy Chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood believes that Egyptian President Hocni Mubarek tried to play on people’s feelings, thinking that they will neglect 30 years of tyranny, political, social and economic corruption and the marginalisation of Egypt’s national role.

  Don’t you see that Mubarek’s speech divided the Egyptian people into partisans and opposition?
  

  Absolutely. There is a part of Egyptian people who have short memory. Others are tolerant and others benefit from the presence of this regime.

  Do you believe that what happened in Tahrir Square in Cairo eliminated any hope in dialogue?

  Absolutely because it unveiled the regime real intentions and false promises. Its promises were meant to gain positions and deceive people.
  

  What is your vision about the US criticism of the regime?

  The US position is shameful. If these events happened in any place in the world, the US would have moved. Yet, its position was weak with the Mubarek regime which preserves its interests and Israel’s interests as well.

  Can the US abandon the Mubarek regime if it feels that its interests are threatened?

  Of course. If the US administration sees that Mubarek can not have control on the situation, it can abandon him to preserve its interests.
  

  Some says there is a difference in visions about dialogue with the government among the Muslim Brotherhood and the opposition popular coalition. What may you say about that?
  

  The Muslim Brotherhood is part of this coalition and there is no conflict between us. Yet, I warn of any difference in points of view between opposition powers because it may abort the revolution.

  Are you ready to held dialogue with the vice-president if Mubarek leaves?
  

  Yes.
  

  How do you assess the military institution role?

  The military institution has always defended people. I believe that if things evolve and there have been more martyrs, it will intervene to preserve people’s interests.
  

  Do you believe that what is happening in Egypt and the Arab world is part of an Israeli plan to blow up the Arab countries?

  I do not believe that. What is happening in Egypt resulted from the regime corruption which caused internal tension. It has nothing to do with foreign interference.

  How do you expect events would turn to?
  

  Change will irradiate corruption in Egypt and it will touch in other Arab countries. It is the result of the Tunisian revolution.
