African Police Chiefs agreed on Monday to create an organization “AFRIPOL” to face the security challenges on the continent, and to use it as a tool to repel foreign intervention that has taken hold in the African countries under the pretext of “intervention in order to stabilize security”, while Algeria expressed its consent on this mechanism.

Prime Minister, Abdelmalek Sellal, said in a speech during the opening of the congress of the African Police Managers and General Inspectors, that Algeria strongly supports the initiative to establish the mechanism of “AFRIPOL” that combines African Police Services, that came to counter the threat of transcontinental organized crime and terrorism, parallel with the establishment of a Special Military System for intervention in the African continent, that would put an end to foreign interventions.
Sellal added; “African continent is ready to solve its problems without resorting to the other party. Algeria strongly supports this idea, which should be established in the city of “Malabo” in July 2014, which is the date of the African Leaders’ Meeting. Establishment of this organization has become a need to counter crime, terrorism, drug trafficking, all forms of civil violence and negative developments within the African communities in the framework of the African Union.”
For his part, Maj. Gen. and General Manager of the National Security, Abdelghani Hamel, said in his speech, on the establishment of “AFRIPOL” mechanism; “It was clear from our meeting that we face the same threats and the same forms of crime, so we are invited to make concerted efforts and increase our exchanges, to intensify our cooperation in the field of police at both the technical and practical levels. AFRIPOL’s strategy and action plan can be the appropriate reference that is sufficient to respond largely to the concerns of its members in the continent.”
“There is a need to address the internal problems of the African Countries to maintain peace and security, and the “AFRIPOL” mechanism in only an expression of our common will to confront the clutches of terrorism.”
