Air Algerie Head Office To Start Wage Talks With Cabin Crew Representatives

Head office of Air Algerie flagship carrier and the cabin crew trade union will start direct talks on Sunday, reads a statement of the Ministry of Transport issued on Saturday.

The talks are to raise the wage hike issue claimed by the stewards and stewardesses, during their four day strike, which ended on Thursday night, following the call of Prime Minister to hold dialogue.

These direct talks on wages have been recommended after the “urgent meeting” of last Thursday, the statement said.

The cabin crew at Algerie had gone on a strike on last Monday, blocking thousands passengers in French and Algerian airports.

The strike ended on Thursday night following a mediation role of SG of the Central Trade Unions (UGTA), Sidi Said, to Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia. The protagonist parties have, then, sealed an agreement to end the conflict.

“The sealing of this urgent agreement was the fruit of a dialogue supported by the Minister of Transport, and the CEO of Air Algerie, under the orientation of Prime Minister, and the role played by the SG of UGTA,” the statement added.

Head of the cabin crew union, Yassine Hamamouche, has confirmed on Friday that PM Ouyahia has pledged to start talks over the status of the cabin crew as by Sunday.

Mr Ouyahia has also decided lifting all sanctions inflicted to the strikers, as well as cancelling all firing decisions against the strike leaders.
