Algeria’s opposition Al Islah Party Sunday called on President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to leave power as a great leader to spare his people further bloodshed like what happened in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya.
- “Al Islah movement launched a 17-clauses-initiative for a peaceful political reform. We call for a constitutional amendment, dissolution of Parliament, holding anticipated elections and accrediting new political parties,” Al Islah’s senior member Djamel Soualeh told a news conference.
- “The phase which the country is experiencing is almost similar to 1989. Because of that, makeshift job is useless. There is a need for real reforms to materialise the lifting of the state of emergency,” he added.
- Speaking about the party, its senior members said the movement is working on correcting its situation and unifying its members. A total of 21 founder members out of 25 approved this initiative.
- On March 13th, El Islah’s Shura Council held an extraordinary session. Miloud Kadri was elected as Secretary General succeeding Djamel Ben Abdelsselam.
