Al-Nahda condemns media campaign against “big sister Algeria”
Tunisia’s ruling al-Nahda party Thursday condemned some media reports for accusing « sister and friend countries of being involved in assassinations and violence in Tunisia. »
“Following those tendentious reports and accusation, al-Nahda rejects and condemns them as they aim at spoiling Tunisia’s relations with sister and friend countries,” said the party in a release posted on its website.
“Al-Nahda confirms the strategic important of relations between Tunisia and neighboring countries including big sister Algeria and friend countries,” it added.
The Algerian foreign ministry described some Tunisian satellite channels and websites as “irresponsible and show unacceptable mystery.”
In an official release, the ministry condemned those “lies in the issue of opposition members Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahimi.”
The ministry said Algeria is faithful to relations with Tunisia and does not interfere in its domestic affairs.
Algerian interior minister Dahou Ould Kablia Thursday said the Popular National Army “properly protects Algeria’s borders and it backed up its capacities on eastern borders due to unrest in Tunisia.”
“There is an exchange of security information between Algeria and its neighbors in order to fight different scourges against the region’s safety and stability including terrorism and smuggling,” he added.
