Algeria: 18 dams raise flood risks in 10 provinces

There’s currently more water in Algeria’s storages than ever before as rainfall has filled dams to 81.58 percent which is considered as the highest point since the independence, according to press attaché at the water ministry.

 

A total of 18 dams out of 65 across the country were totally filled. Of them, 4 in the north in the provinces of Bouira, Tizi Ouzou and Bejaia, 7 in the east and 7 in the west in the provinces of  Tlemcen, Tiaret, Ain Defla and Tissemssilt.

The press attaché told Echorouk that 16 dams in the provinces of Mascara, Chlef, Tissemssilt, Ain Defla, Medea, Mostaghanem, Tipaza, Boumerdes, Skikda, Khenchela and Taref were filled to 90 percent.

“This is the highest point since Algeria’s independence compared to 70 percent in 2012. thus, there will be no water crisis in Algeria in this summer,” she said.
