The security services of the province of Constantine, in eastern Algeria, have started an in – depth investigation into a tragic affair related to a gross professional misconduct on the part of some paramedical staff and eye surgeons at a private clinic located on the heights of the city of Constantine.

All the parties at issue including the patients who fell victim to this gross professional misconduct and the owner of this clinic, specialised in ophthalmology, were brought together on Monday before the Attorney General to shed light on the ins and outs of this tragic affair and to pinpoint the accountability of this private health facility for the disability inflicted on the 3 patients and worse for the sudden death of the 7 month – old baby.

The distressed parents of this baby boy, who was taken to this clinic for a benign eye treatment, said that their infant was clearly the victim of a grave medical blunder and an utter lack of attention and care during his brief stay at the clinic.

This awful situation, they added, has provoked the still unexplained death of their poor baby who was arguably in a good health condition before his admission to this private clinic, according to a health certificate shown to Echorouk reporters by his grieved parents.

Furthermore, 3 women including an old woman who has just returned from a pilgrimage to the holy places of Islam also fell victim to serious medical blunders in this failing clinic by losing an eye after slipshod surgery.

The 3 women, who are new in total distress on account of their unexpected eyesight disability, went to this Constantine clinic for a small surgical operation consisting in the extraction of water from one of their painful eyes.

But this simple eye surgery, which should have been conducted carefully and correctly turned, all of a sudden, into a harrowing nightmare for these unfortunate patients who now demand redress for the harm inflicted on them by virtue of the law.
