Algeria announced its rejection of any unconstitutional change of government in Mali, according to what is stipulated in the African Union agreements, especially the Algeria Declaration of 1999 and the African Charter for Democracy, Elections and Governance in 2007.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement, on Wednesday, that “it is not possible to violate the African Union doctrine regarding respect for the constitutional order of the southern neighbour.”
In the context, “Algeria called on all parties to respect the constitutional order and quickly get out of the crisis, noting that the ballot box is the only way to gain power and legitimacy.”
It is noteworthy that officers in the Malian army led a rebellion in the capital on Tuesday and arrested President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and the Prime Minister, and Keita announced in the early hours of Wednesday his resignation.
