Algeria / Arrest of 1355 illegal immigrants and seizure of 28 vehicles in Illizi province.

The National Gendarmerie forces have succeeded in rounding up 1355 illegal immigrants in Illizi province, in southern Algeria, over the past few months.

•  Most of these illegal immigrants hail from Sub – Saharan countries including Niger, Guinea and Mali.
• The largest batch of those arrested came from neighbouring Niger totalling the number of 912.
• Gendarmerie sources further indicated that 20 Algerian nationals had also been arrested in the Illizi area for helping these illegal immigrants cross into Algerian territory illegally.
• They could face up to 6 months in jail for such an offence.
