Algeria assigns commission to inquiry about prefects’ illegal properties

Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal formed a commission in charge of inquiring about illegal properties of a number of prefects following reports on their involvement in suspicious deals and projects, Echorouk has learnt.

The investigation will be conducted in the properties of four prefects including Tlemcen, Bordj Bouarreridj and Ouargla.

According to the same sources, the Prime Minister received confidential reports about illegal properties of some prefects such as real-estates, villas, apartments and shops.

Security reports show that some prefects are involved in suspicious deals and projects.

The prefects are also accused of wrongdoings in houses and real-estates distribution as well as granting public deals by mutual agreement in the last few years.

The same sources said Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika gave the go-ahead to Sellal to ensure well-controlled supervision.

In a recent meeting with prefects, Sellal stressed the necessity of making more efforts to fight bureaucracy and achieving development projects.
