Algeria calls upon Mali’s conflicting parties to stop violence immediately
Algeria expressed, on Tuesday, its deep concern of the security developments in northern Mali, and condemned “strongly” the “unacceptable” violations, calling for an immediate cease-fire.
According to a statement of the Foreign Affairs Ministry; “Algeria, as the Chair of International Mediation in the Mali crisis and the committee to monitor the implementation of peace and reconciliation agreement in Mali, which is emanating from Algiers Agreement, is expressing deep concern of the security developments in the areas of northern Mali.”
“Algeria warns of the seriousness of the bloody confrontations that took place in Kidal between the armed elements of the two parties, in the achieved agreements within the framework of Algeria’s path. Algeria strongly condemns these unacceptable violations to the cease-fire that cannot be justified by any form. Political and military movements and their leaders are fully responsible for those events that threaten the efforts of the international community to bring peace and security in Mali.”
“All the parties are concerned of their commitments to peace and respect for the ceasefire that is signed on May, 23, 2014 and the Cease-Fire Declaration that was signed in Algiers on July, 24, 2014, and the statement that was signed in Algiers on February, 19, 2015. All parties should stop violence immediately, and allow the mechanisms that were agreed upon within the framework of Algeria’s path to fulfill their complete role.”
