Algeria counts 20 cases of abduction monthly

Reports prepared by the gendarmerie and the services of nationals ecurity show the growing phenomenon of kidnapping in Algeria, representing 20% from year to year, and counting during the year 2011, nearly 500 cases of abduction at the national level, with an average of 20 cases per month.

Kidnapping has become a dangerous phenomenon in Algeria, and becomes obsession of the Algerian families in recent years, as every day services of the national gendarmerie and police receive information about threat of abduction or sexual assault or ransom demand.

In this context, statistics of the National Gendarmerie obtained by Echorouk indicate that the 48 localities recorded during 2011 over 243 cases of kidnapping followed by threats, sexual assault and robbery of money, and ransoms demand, in which 271 people including 260 men and 11 women were brought before the judicial authorities, while15 cases were recorded in the first six months of the current year.

For its part, services of the national security dealt with 177 cases of abduction during the year 2011, and succeeded in the liberation of 141 men and 36 women, not to mention the cases of disappearance and escape from home, which ends with finding the dead body of the victim.
