Algeria counts 93654 Association accredited by the state, that are active at the national and local levels,according to the inventory results that were announced on 12 January 2012, including 92,627 local and 1027 National Associations, half of these organizations either stopped their activity, or not active, or unknown, Interior Ministry said.
The Ministry designated the National Associations to 32 national associations of former pupils and students, 7 human rights organizations, led by the National Advisory Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, the Algerian League for Defending Human Rights, the National Association for Human Rights, and the National Organization for Victims of terrorism.
Interior Ministry added that 20 accredited foreign and national associations are currently active in Algeria, including the Association of Clubs Alliance International and the Association of Rotary Clubs International , in addition to 9 revolutionary organizations, including organizations of the Mujahideen and the Children of Martyrs ,War Veterans of the Middle East, Death Sentenced Association, Torch of the Martyr, Association of Victims of May 5, 1945, and the Association of victims of nuclear tests, etc., and 23 national feminist associations, including the National Union of Algerian Women, Women Artisans, and the Association of Battered Women, the National Union of Working Women, the National Union of Heads of Institutions, and Racheda Association, and 10 religious associations including, the Association of Muslim Scholars, the Association of Counseling and Reform, the Association of Zawaya , and 28 association in the field of solidarity and volunteerism and charitable organizations, led by the Algerian Red Crescent, Associations of Orphans’ Aid , as well as syndicates, international labor unions and professional independent ones, and associations belonging to the General Union of Algerian Workers, as well as the Associations of Chronic Disease, like patients with diabetes, pressure, cancer, kidney, and HIV… and others, and unions and professional associations of Bakers, Transporters, Taxi Drivers, Contractors and Companies’ Employers, importers, traders, craftsmen, producers of milk, peasants, producers of date and other professional associations .
Over 92,627 local associations, are counted according to their distribution by sector, including 20,137 associations of neighborhoods, which represent the dominant figure in the field of associative movements, as they represent 21.74%, followed by religious associations which are15304, then15019 sports, education and youth association, and 14891 parents and children associations as well .
The rest are all professional associations, associations of art, culture, science, technology, environment, and associations of disabled persons and persons with special needs, consumer associations, youth and children, and former pupils and students, and associations of health and medicine, solidarity and charity, feminism, retired, tourism and entertainment. The overwhelming majority of associations are based in Algiers, which counts 7199 associations, then Bejaia (5109), and Tizi Ouzou counting (4809) .
