Algeria Eager to Cooperate with Libya

Algeria is eager to cooperate with Libya in security related issues, and suggested to set up a joint border committee, said Minister of Interior, Daho Ould Kablia.

Mr Ould Kablia, who received his Libyan counterpart, Fawzi Abdelali, in Algiers, said “Algeria is eager to cooperate with Libya in domains that can substantially contribute in reinforcing surveillance on bilateral borders,” adding that “We suggest to set up a joint border committee between Algeria and Libya.” Mr Abdelali arrived Tuesday to Algiers as part of a two day visit. The two parties are due to discuss bilateral cooperation, in terms of boarder security, fighting organized crime, training, and the development of boarder localities,” a statement of Ministry of Interior said Monday. The Libyan official is due to visit several security linked spots, including the police academy Ali Tounsi, the Forensic Police, the Headquarters of Republican Security Units, the Fire Fighting Intervention and Training Center, and the national criminology and evidence centre. In the African border security summit held recently in Tripoli, Ould Kablia announced the creation of a bilateral boarder committee with Libya to strengthen joint border patrols to clamp down on arms trafficking, transnational crime and terror threats of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb ‘AQIM). Earlier, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mourad Medelci, said Algeria will help Libya built an army and police.
