Algeria establishes plan to secure borders
General Ahmed Gaid Salah, major general of the Algerian National Army hold a security meeting on Thursday to assess the assault on In Amenas attackers while investigations are still going on with three arrested terrorists, Echorouk has learnt.
The meeting was held in presence of the National Police Chief Abdelghani Hamel, the National Gendarmerie Chief Ahmed Boustila and senior security executives. They discussed a special security plan for foreigners in such areas and a new strategy to protect borders, sources said.
A set of new measures are expected to be taken in order to reactivate borders protective plan. Borders with Libya are very close to populated areas in Algeria compared to borders with other countries such as Mali and Niger.
Algeria identified the seven remaining bodies after the attack. Experts from the UK and Norway helped a group of specialized gendarmes in their work.
In a magazine issued by the Algerian army, the defense ministry said its response to the terrorist attack was “responsible and professional. It was the only choice in such circumstances.”
The Ministry of National Defense renewed its attachment to Algeria’s principle of not negotiating with terrorists. “The operation was carried out without any negotiation so that the criminals and murders would not become negotiators.”
The ministry described the attack threats as “dangerous” on Algeria’s sovereignty and it is an “indisputable domestic question.”
