Algeria: Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum Appointed As Acting Prime Minister
On Thursday, Prime Minister Noureddine Bedoui submitted his resignation to the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the Presidential Palace in Mouradia in upper Algiers.
After the completion of the constitutional ceremony for Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who took the constitutional oath and assumed forthwith his duties at the presidency, Nourredine Bedoui went directly to the presidential headquarters where he tendered his resignation to the new President of the Republic who accepted it.
Article 100 of the constitution states that “the Prime Minister can submit the resignation of the government to the President of the Republic.”
Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune also appointed former Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum as Acting Prime Minister until the formation of a new government, according to a statement issued by the Presidency.
Moreover, the new President of the Republic commissioned the current government to continue its duties, as a caretaker government.
Today evening, the President of the Republic ended the duties of the Minister of the Interior, Salah Eddine Dahmoune, and nominated the Minister of Housing, Kamel Beldjoud, as Acting Minister of the Interior, local Assemblies and Country Planning.
Sources told “Echoroukonline” that the president Tebboune preferred to stall in the appointment of the new government, in order to give himself enough time to radically change its make up in the coming weeks.
Article 93 of the Constitution states that “The President of the Republic appoints the members of the government after consulting the Prime Minister, and the Prime Minister coordinates the work of the government, and the government then prepares its working plan before submitting it to the Cabinet.”
Bedoui’s resignation, which Tebboune accepted, came to embody the departure of the last political figure that the popular protest movement (Hirak) has been demanding to go, since its outbreak about 10 months ago, with the demand for the departure of Bedoui and his government being among the most prominent demands of the popular movement especially as the latter stemmed from the era of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
